Praying in the Holyghost

Jude  1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Many believe and conclude that praying in the Spirit means to pray in tongues, or in a “prayer language.” But with much understanding both are different in their entirety.

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God” (Romans 8:26-27).

From the verse above, the Holy Spirit is operating in His intercessory ministry; the disciples and others were never said to be “groaning” in tongues, they spoke in tongues. The word “groanings” here refers to sighing (especially brought on by circumstances creating great pressure). How many times have we found ourselves in situations where we simply did not know what or how to pray?

This verse begins to show us just what praying in the Spirit actually means. Praying in the Spirit means to pray with the mind of the Spirit. When we pray this way, we are praying according to the will of God. Praying according to the will of God not only assures us that He hears our prayers, but also that He will answer them in His own way in His own time.

Praying in the spirit means you adhere to the will of the Father, forgetting about your own desires. Christ prayed the same kind of prayer at the garden of Gethsemane. Luke  22:41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,  22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
