Doing things decently and in order

1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

In the verse above, Apostle Paul addresses the issue of spiritual gifts and the order of worship in the church. He acknowledges the importance of spiritual gifts but emphasizes that they should be exercised in an orderly and edifying manner.

I. Decency in Our Actions
"Let all things be done decently..." The word "decently" suggests that our actions and conduct should reflect the character of Christ. In our lives, we must strive to act in a way that is honourable, morally upright, and in accordance with God's Word. Decency is not merely an external show; it should stem from a heart transformed by God's grace.

II. ...And in Order:
"...and in order." The second part of the verse emphasizes the importance of order in our lives and in the life of the church. Disorder leads to confusion and chaos, hindering the work of the Holy Spirit. Just as God is a God of order, we are called to establish order in our personal lives and in our church gatherings.

III. Practical Applications:
A. In our personal life, we must prioritize our relationship with God through prayer, reading the Word, and seeking His guidance. Maintain a sense of order in our daily routine, as this can bring peace and reduce stress and Cultivate decency in your relationships, speaking and acting with love and respect.

B. Church Life:
We must Foster an environment of reverence and respect in worship services, honouring God's presence, Coordinate and organise activities, meetings, and events in the church to avoid confusion and encourage the responsible use of spiritual gifts for the edification of the body of Christ.

IV. The Ultimate Goal:
The ultimate goal of doing things decently and in order is to glorify God and advance His kingdom. When our lives and our church activities are marked by decency and order, we create an atmosphere where God's presence can be felt, and His transformative work can be seen.

In conclusion, As followers of Christ, let us seek to honour God in our actions, pursue decency in our conduct, and establish order in our lives and in our church. May these principles guide us as we strive to live out our faith and share the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with the world. Amen.

God bless you.
