Making our body sacred
1 Corinthians 6:15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. 6:16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
Our physical bodies are not separate from our spiritual selves. When we engage in behaviours that dishonour our bodies, we are, in a sense, dishonouring Christ Himself. We must treat our bodies with the reverence they deserve.
Paul warns against sexual immorality, emphasizing that when we engage in such actions, we sin against our own bodies. The act of sexual intimacy is a deeply spiritual connection, and it must be reserved for the sacred bonds of marriage.
Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. God's Spirit dwells within us, making our bodies holy. We didn't choose to have this Spirit; it was given to us as a gift. Thus, we are not our own; we belong to God. We must, therefore, honour God with our bodies in everything we do.
To make our bodies sacred, we should:
1. Practice Self-Control: By practicing self-control, we can resist the temptations of the flesh and maintain purity in our actions.
2. Pursue Sexual Purity: We should honour the sanctity of marriage and the intimacy it represents, saving ourselves for this sacred covenant.
3. Be Filled with the Holy Spirit:
To make our bodies truly sacred, we must invite and allow the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is a transformative and empowering experience that not only sanctifies our bodies but also empowers us to live a life that brings glory to God.
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, several remarkable changes occur within us:
a. Guidance and Wisdom: The Holy Spirit guides us in our daily decisions, helping us discern between right and wrong, and leading us on a path of righteousness. This guidance extends to how we care for our bodies, helping us make choices that promote health and well-being.
b. Strength and Self-Control: The Holy Spirit provides us with the strength and self-control needed to overcome temptations and sinful desires. This includes the ability to maintain sexual purity and resist other behaviours that dishonour our bodies.
c. Transformation: The Holy Spirit works within us to transform our character, making us more like Christ. This transformation includes cultivating virtues like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
d. Empowerment for Service: Being filled with the Holy Spirit equips us for service to others. When we care for our bodies and seek to honour God, we become vessels through which the Spirit can work to bring comfort, healing, and hope to those in need.
e. Prayer and Intimacy with God: The Holy Spirit facilitates our communication with God through prayer, enabling us to develop a deep and intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father. This connection, nurtured through prayer, sustains our commitment to making our bodies sacred.
In conclusion, as we continue to live our life, we must always recognize the sacredness of our bodies and the responsibility we have to honour God through them. By living in a way that respects the sanctity of our physical selves, we not only draw closer to God but also set an example for others.
God bless you.
