Be Holy

1 Peter  1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;  1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

The verses above implore us to "Be Holy." Let us dive into this scripture and explore what it means to live a holy life in the sight of our Lord.

I. Understanding Holiness:
1 Peter 1:15-16 says, "But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy because I am holy.'" Holiness is not just a religious concept; it is a call to reflect the very nature of our Creator. God is holy, and as His children, we are called to emulate His holiness.

A. Holiness Defined:
Holiness means to be set apart, to be consecrated, to be morally pure, and to live in a way that is distinct from the world. It is a life characterized by righteousness, love, and reverence for God.

II. The Call to Holiness:
A. Divine Calling:
God has called us to be holy. This calling is not based on our own merit but on His grace and love for us. He desires that we walk in obedience to His commands and live in a manner that reflects His character.

B. A Lifelong Journey:
Being holy is not a one-time event but a lifelong journey. It requires daily commitment and dedication. We must continually strive to conform our lives to God's standards and seek His guidance through prayer and His Word.

III. Holiness in Action:
A. Holiness in Character:
Our holiness should be evident in our character. It means being honest, loving, patient, and humble. It involves refraining from gossip, anger, hatred, and any form of sin that separates us from God.

B. Holiness in Relationships:
Our relationships should also reflect holiness. We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves, forgive others as God has forgiven us, and promote unity and peace within the body of Christ.

C. Holiness in Worship:
In our worship, we should approach God with reverence and awe. Our worship should not be ritualistic but a heartfelt expression of our love for Him. As we draw near to God in worship, we become more aware of His holiness.

IV. Motivated by Love:
Our pursuit of holiness should be motivated by love for God. We love Him because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). Our desire to be holy should spring from a deep gratitude for His salvation and a longing to please Him.

In conclusion, the call to "Be Holy" is not a burdensome command but a glorious invitation to reflect the nature of our holy God. As we walk in holiness, we experience the abundant life that Christ offers, and we become vessels of His grace and love to a broken world. Let us heed the words of 1 Peter 1:15-16 and embrace the call to holiness with joy and gratitude, knowing that our pursuit of holiness brings glory to the One who is holy. Amen.

God bless you.
