Be not conformed to the world
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Conformity implies molding ourselves to fit the standards, values, and behaviors prevalent in society. The world, in this context, represents a system driven by human desires, materialism, self-centeredness, and moral relativism.
When we are told not to conform, we are being warned against adopting these worldly patterns and behaviors that distract us from God's truth. He sees the danger in losing our distinctiveness as Christians, blending in with the world to the point where our faith becomes indistinguishable from secular society.
Apostle Paul doesn’t just tell us what to avoid; he points us toward a higher calling which is transformation. This transformation is the inner change that begins with the renewal of our minds. It involves a complete reorientation of our thoughts, attitudes, and values in alignment with God’s will.
The renewal of our minds is an ongoing process, involving daily immersion in Scripture, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It means seeking God’s perspective on every aspect of life, allowing His truth to reshape our understanding and responses. It’s about replacing worldly wisdom with divine wisdom, fear with faith, and self-centeredness with Christ-centeredness.
As we are transformed by the renewing of our minds, we will then be able to test and approve what God's will is – His good, pleasing, and perfect will. This means we gain discernment and clarity to recognize God's purposes and direction for our lives.
Imagine the freedom and confidence that comes with knowing and walking in God’s will. It brings a deep sense of peace and purpose, knowing that our lives are aligned with the Creator’s design. It equips us to make decisions that honor God, build His kingdom, and reflect His love and righteousness to a watching world.
Practical Steps Toward Transformation:
1. Engage in Daily Scripture Reading and Meditation: Let God’s Word saturate your mind and heart, shaping your worldview and guiding your decisions.
2. Commit to Prayer: Cultivate a continuous conversation with God, seeking His guidance, strength, and wisdom in all things.
3. Surround Yourself with Godly Community: Fellowship with other believers who can encourage, challenge, and support you in your walk with Christ.
4. Live Out Your Faith: Apply biblical principles in your everyday life, demonstrating integrity, compassion, and love in your interactions with others.
5. Guard Your Mind: Be discerning about the influences you allow into your life, whether through social media, relationships, or activities. Choose what aligns with God’s truth and reject what leads you away from Him.
In conclusion, there will always be distractions that will wish to take away our attention, and focus from God and His will, let us always be sensitive in the spirit so we do not lose sight of God like Samson, Saul and gehazi did.
God bless you.
