The hearer and the doer of the Word
James 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
As we have been saved in Christ Jesus, not by our works but by the grace of God the Father, we become jointed in the fellowship with Him.
However, after we believe, God wants us to do many good things. He demands we have more understanding of Him and also to become the doer of His words and commandment
One's relationship with God must pass from an intellectual knowledge of God and His word to behavioural obedience to His instructions
Being the hearer of the word is giving time to the study of his word, becoming intentional in understanding the mysteries of God's works and deeds in the past and present. We cannot get to know better of God if we do not incline our ears towards the preaching of the word.
On the other hand, being a doer of the word is the manifestation of one's humble acceptance of God's direction in his life because of the grace of God. In other words, if there is no obedience, then there is no manifestation of gratitude on the part of the one who seeks to be led by God.
In obedience, we show that, what we heard requires us to act on it. But one who is not a doer sees himself in a mirror; goes his way and before you know it, has forgotten what he looks like.
This gives us a disappointing view of when it comes to hearing the word of God, whether reading the word, hearing it in Sunday School, Bible Study or Sunday but the old phrase is shown that it goes in one ear and out the other.
The word of God is not just meant to be preached or heard, it is meant to be practiced. It’s not just meant to be delivered, it’s meant to be done!
Many Christians live in deception today, they hear the word, but refuse to do it, though the scripture says we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free, but on the contrary, it didn't.
Doers are people of wisdom. They find strength in God’s word in stormy times. In the scripture, non-doers are called fools and when hardships come they will fall immediately, (Matthew 7:24-27).
Doers will inherit eternal life while others will be condemned, (Matthew 13:24-30) only those who live according to the will of God made available in His words will have the opportunity to reign with Him on the last day.
Doers are people of integrity. Nondoers are hypocrites, (Matthew 23:13). When the whole of your life is consumed with the word of God, you live according to the standard of Him which is evident in Christ and the first Apostles.
God delights in the doers of His word, they receive grace from Him and are expectant of His Son's second coming.
Stop living a hypocritical, and stiffnecked life, be doers of the Word. Show that you “Cherish the Word” by allowing yourself to be “Changed by the Word.” else, you are only being deceived by the devil and your end is hell.
God bless you.
