Asking in God's name
John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
Jesus declares, "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it".
What does it truly mean to ask in the name of Jesus? It goes beyond mere words uttered in prayer; it embodies a state of alignment with the will and character of Christ. When we ask in his name, we are invoking his authority, his righteousness, and his purposes. We are surrendering our own desires to the greater wisdom and sovereignty of God.
Asking in God's name requires faith—faith that transcends doubt and fear, faith that believes in the goodness of God's plan even when circumstances seem dire. It is a faith that perseveres through trials, knowing that God is faithful to fulfill his promises to those who trust in him.
Moreover, asking in God's name is not a selfish act motivated by personal gain. Rather, it is an expression of our desire to align our will with God's will, to participate in his redemptive work in the world. It is about seeking first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, knowing that all other things will be added unto us (Matthew 6:33).
In asking in God's name, we are reminded of our identity as children of God—loved, cherished, and empowered to co-labor with him in bringing about his purposes on earth. Jesus assures us, "If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth" (John 14:15-17a, NIV).
Through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to pray according to God's will, to intercede for others with compassion and empathy, and to walk in obedience to his commands. The Spirit empowers us to ask in God's name with boldness and confidence, knowing that our prayers are heard and that God delights in answering them for his glory.
And when our desire aligns with his will, even before we call on him, he will answer us because He knows the intent of our heart and knows our needs per time and season. Isaiah 65:24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
In conclusion, Let us pray with faith and expectancy, knowing that our heavenly Father delights in granting the desires of our hearts when they are aligned with his will. And let us never forget that in asking in God's name, we participate in the unfolding of his kingdom here on earth, bringing glory and honor to his name.
