Treading in good paths
Psalms 143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
Life is a constant battle for which path you are going to follow. The challenge is that the ungodly path of life is easy, attractive, and popular, whereas the godly path of life is often inconvenient, uncomfortable, and unpopular. This is precisely Jesus’ message in the Sermon on the Mount:
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
The godly and good path of life is lived in obedience to God’s truth. It is directed by the Lord’s standards of rightness, guided by his wisdom, and empowered by his Spirit.
The ungodly and wicked path of life is the way of foolish people. It is directed by impulse and self-centeredness and does not follow God’s standards.
Apostle Paul admonished the believers at Ephesus with respect to the pattern we should imitate, and the path we should avoid. He wrote;
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them (Ephesians 5:1-7).
There is great value and even the prospect of eternal reward in taking the time to stop in our activities of life and ask, “Am I walking on the right path? Am I headed toward a good end? Whose example in life am I imitating and what was the end of their journey like?
If you desire to walk in the good paths, then you life must be inclined with the standard of God, emulating the character of Christ which are but not limited to holiness, righteousness, faithfulness, loving, just and obedience.
Tread in the good path of life no matter how inconvenient, uncomfortable or unpopular it may be, one thing is certain, and it is that you will not regret it at the end.
God bless you.
