The chief corner Stone

Matthew  21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

In ancient construction, the cornerstone was crucial for the stability and alignment of the entire structure. It served as a reference point, the first stone laid, and all other stones were set in relation to it. Similarly, in the spiritual realm, Jesus refers to himself as the chief cornerstone – the foundation upon which our faith is built.

Just as the builders rejected the stone that became the cornerstone, society may at times reject what is essential for our spiritual foundation. Yet, Jesus, the rejected cornerstone, becomes the cornerstone of our faith. He is the solid rock upon which we build our lives, the unshakable foundation in a world filled with uncertainties.

Let us reflect on three aspects of the chief cornerstone:

1. Rejection and Redemption:
Just as the builders rejected the stone, Jesus faced rejection during his earthly ministry. However, this rejection was not the end but the beginning of redemption. The rejected stone became the cornerstone of salvation, offering us a path to reconciliation with God.

2. Alignment and Purpose:
In construction, the cornerstone determines the alignment and stability of the entire structure. Similarly, Jesus aligns our lives and provides stability in the storms of life. When we build our faith upon him, we find purpose and direction. He is the guide that keeps us on the narrow path leading to eternal life.

3. Unity and Community:
The cornerstone also symbolises the unity of the building. As individual stones, we find our place and purpose in relation to the chief cornerstone. Together, we form a spiritual house, a community of believers built on the unchanging foundation of Christ. Our unity is a testimony to the world of the transformative power of the rejected cornerstone.

In conclusion, let us remember that Jesus, the rejected stone, is the chief cornerstone of our faith. He invites us to build our lives upon him, finding redemption, alignment, purpose, and unity in his love. As we navigate the challenges of life, let the chief cornerstone be the foundation of our hope and the anchor of our souls.

God bless you.
