Evil deeds

John  3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.  3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Light and darkness symbolises the spiritual condition of humanity. The light represents the truth, righteousness, and the presence of God, while darkness symbolises sin, deception, and the works of evil.

It is crucial for us to understand that evil deeds thrive in the shadows, where the light of truth is absent. People, influenced by the darkness of sin, may avoid the light because it exposes their deeds. This avoidance is not merely a fear of exposure but a deliberate choice to distance oneself from God's truth.

As followers of Christ, we are called to be bearers of this light, to bring the truth of God's Word into a world that often prefers to remain in darkness. However, confronting evil deeds requires more than just shining a light; it demands a deep understanding of the root causes of such actions.

In verse 20, we learn that those who engage in wickedness hate the light. This hatred stems from a discomfort with the conviction that comes from the truth.

The light of Christ exposes sin, prompting individuals to confront their need for redemption and forgiveness. Yet, some choose to cling to darkness, preferring the fleeting pleasures it offers over the transformative power of God's light.

As a community of believers, let us reflect on our role in exposing the darkness. Are we faithfully bringing the light of Christ into our relationships, workplaces, and communities? Are we compassionate truth-bearers, inviting others to step into the light of God's grace?

Verse 21 provides hope and encouragement. Those who do what is true willingly come to the light, demonstrating that their deeds are aligned with God's will. As we strive to live righteous lives, let us serve as beacons of hope, inviting others to experience the freedom found in the light of Christ.

In conclusion, let us be vigilant in our pursuit of truth and righteousness, understanding that evil deeds lose their power when exposed to the transforming light of God.

God bless you.
