The wise and the fool

Ecclesiastes  2:14 The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.

King Solomon in His wisdom compares and contrast the life of the wise and fool, this contest brings us towards the kind of God which is enshrined in this message.

King Solomon begins by noting that "The wise have eyes in their heads." This imagery suggests that the wise are perceptive, discerning, and aware of their surroundings.

They navigate life with understanding and insight, guided by knowledge and prudence. The wise person seeks to live a life that honors God, follows His commandments, and makes choices that lead to a fulfilling and meaningful existence.

The wisdom that Solomon speaks of is not just  intellectual understanding but deeply spiritual. Proverbs 9:10 tells us, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." True wisdom starts with a reverent relationship with God, recognizing His sovereignty and aligning our lives with His will.

In contrast, Solomon describes the fool as one who "walks in the darkness." The fool stumbles through life without understanding or direction, making decisions based on ignorance and short-sightedness. This lack of spiritual insight leads to a life of chaos, sin, and ultimately, destruction.

The Bible frequently warns against foolishness. In Proverbs 14:12, we read, "There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death." The fool relies on their own understanding and disregards the wisdom that comes from God, resulting in a life devoid of true purpose and peace.

Despite the stark differences between the wise and the fool, Solomon makes a sobering observation: "but I came to realize that the same fate overtakes them both." Death is the great equalizer. Whether one is wise or foolish, rich or poor, powerful or weak, all must face the reality of mortality. This truth should prompt us to reflect on the ultimate meaning of our lives.

With the inevitability of death, how should we live? Solomon’s reflection pushes us beyond the pursuit of wisdom for its own sake or the accumulation of knowledge and wealth. It drives us to consider the eternal perspective.

In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus tells the parable of the wise and foolish builders. The wise man builds his house on the rock, a firm foundation that withstands life's storms. The foolish man builds his house on sand, which collapses when trouble comes. The rock represents Jesus and His teachings. True wisdom, therefore, is found in building our lives on the foundation of Christ.

In conclusion, this message reminds us of our mortality and the importance of living with eternity in mind. Let us seek wisdom not just for this life, but for the life to come. Let us build our lives on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ, knowing that in Him, we have hope beyond the grave.

God bless you.
