Great Multiplication

Genesis  26:1 And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.  26:2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:  26:3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;  26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 


In this Scriptural text of today, we witness Isaac, the son of Abraham, facing a challenging season. Famine had struck the land, threatening not only Isaac's livelihood but also the promise of God to make his descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky. In the face of adversity, Isaac could have succumbed to fear, doubt, and uncertainty. Yet, he chose a different path – a path anchored in faith and trust in God's promises.

Isaac's response to the famine was not to flee in search of greener pastures or to hoard what little he had. Instead, he remained in the land to which God had directed him. He trusted in the covenant that God had made with his father, Abraham. He chose obedience over fear, believing that God would fulfill His promise, even when circumstances seemed bleak.

And what was the result of Isaac's faithfulness and trust? The scripture tells us that God blessed him abundantly. Despite the famine, Isaac sowed seeds in the land, and God multiplied his harvest a hundredfold. Isaac's flocks and herds increased, and he became exceedingly wealthy.

This story of Isaac's faith and God's faithfulness teaches us several valuable lessons:

1. Faith in God's promises: Just as Isaac trusted in the promise made to his father, we too must trust in the promises of God found in His Word. Even when circumstances seem dire, God remains faithful to His word.

2. Obedience in adversity: Isaac's obedience to God's directive to stay in the land, despite the famine, demonstrates the importance of obedience even in difficult times. When we obey God, even when it seems counterintuitive, He can work miracles in our lives.

3. God's faithfulness in multiplication: God is not limited by scarcity or adversity. He is the God of abundance who can multiply our blessings beyond measure. When we trust in Him and remain faithful, He will bless us abundantly.

As we conclude this study on the story of Isaac, let us examine our own lives. Are we trusting in God's promises, even in the midst of challenges? Are we obedient to His commands, even when they seem difficult or inconvenient? Are we expecting God to multiply our blessings, or are we living in fear and scarcity?

May we be inspired by Isaac's example of faith and obedience. May we trust in God's promises, obey His commands, and expect Him to multiply our blessings beyond measure. And may we, like Isaac, experience the great multiplication of God's blessings in our lives in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
