Believing in God's promises

Genesis  15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.  15:2 And Abram said, LORD God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?  15:3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.  15:4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.  15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.  15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

In the passage above, we witness the dialogue between God and Abram, where God reassures Abram of His promises. Abram, though faithful, was facing uncertainties and doubts. He longed for an heir, a legacy to carry forward. Yet, as time passed, his hope wavered.

In the midst of Abram's doubts, God speaks words of comfort and assurance: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward." These words, expresses the heart of God's promises to us. They are not just words spoken into the void; they are declarations of divine intention, backed by the unwavering faithfulness of our Heavenly Father.

But Abram's response is telling. He questions God, not in defiance, but in a plea for assurance. "Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless?" Abram's honesty is a lesson for us all. It's okay to bring our doubts and fears before God. He welcomes our honesty and invites us to lay our burdens at His feet.

In verse 6, we find the  of the central point the matter: "Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness." Here lies the essence of faith – belief in the promises of God, even when circumstances seem bleak. Abram's faith was not blind; it was rooted in the character of God, His faithfulness, and His ability to fulfill what He had promised.

Beloved, like Abram, we are called to trust in the promises of God, even when our circumstances may seem daunting. In times of uncertainty, let us cling to the truth that God is faithful to His word. His promises are not contingent upon our circumstances or our feelings; they are grounded in His unchanging character.

As we navigate the complexities of life, let us hold fast to the promises of God as our anchor. Let us cultivate a faith like Abram's – a faith that believes against all odds, a faith that dares to trust in the goodness and faithfulness of our Heavenly Father.

In conclusion, in every situation we may find ourselves, our faith and believe in God should continually increase, so we can receive the fullness of His promises He had planned for us.

God bless you.
