Loving God First

Deuteronomy  6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

God commanded the children of Israel after the Exodus to love him with all their heart and soul and might, and by extension to all believers who has chosen Christ as their lord and person saviour.

These words are not just a commandment; they are  invitation to enter into a covenant of love with the Almighty. The essence of this verse is clear – it calls us to prioritize our love for God above all else. But why does the scripture emphasize "all your heart, soul, and strength"?

Firstly, loving God with all our heart means engaging our emotions and affections. It's not a mechanical obedience; it's a deep, heartfelt connection.

When we love God with all our soul, it involves our entire being – our thoughts, desires, and innermost self. And with all our strength implies dedicating our actions, talents, and resources to serve God.

Secondly, the call to love God first is a powerful reminder of where our ultimate allegiance lies. Our hearts can easily be pulled in different directions – by the pursuit of wealth, success, or relationships. However, the scripture reminds us that the foundation of our lives should be a love for God that surpasses all other loves.

This covenant of the heart is not just about religious rituals; it's about a living, dynamic relationship with the Creator. It's about acknowledging God's supremacy in our lives and allowing His love to transform us from the inside out. As we prioritize our love for God, we find purpose, meaning, and fulfillment that surpasses anything the world can offer.

Let us reflect on the state of our hearts today. Are they divided, distracted, or devoted to God? The call to love God with all our heart, soul, and strength is an ongoing journey – a daily commitment to seek His presence, align our actions with His will, and surrender ourselves to His divine love.

In conclusion, Loving God first is not a burden; it's a blessed opportunity to experience the depth of His love and to live in alignment with His perfect plan for us. May our hearts be wholly devoted to the One who first loved us, and may our lives be a testimony to the transformative power of loving God above all else. Amen.

God bless you.
