Worthy is the Lamb

Revelation  7:12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.  7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

In Revelation 7, John is given a vision of a multitude that no one could number, from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They are clothed in white robes, holding palm branches in their hands, and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"

This scene is one of the most inspiring in the entire Bible. It depicts the ultimate triumph of God's redemptive plan through Jesus Christ, the Lamb who was slain. In verse 12, the heavenly host offers a sevenfold praise, attributing blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might to God. This outpouring of worship is not just a formality but a deep, heartfelt response to the worthiness of the Lamb.

What makes the Lamb worthy of such praise and adoration?

1. The Sacrifice of the Lamb:
The worthiness of the Lamb is rooted in His sacrificial death. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, willingly laid down His life to atone for our sins. As Isaiah 53:7 prophesied, "He was led like a lamb to the slaughter." His blood was shed so that we might be cleansed and reconciled to God. This ultimate act of love and obedience is the foundation of His worthiness.

2. The Victory of the Lamb:
The Lamb's worthiness is also found in His victory over sin, death, and the grave. By His resurrection, Jesus conquered the powers of darkness and secured eternal life for all who believe in Him. Revelation 5:5 proclaims, "Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered." The Lamb who was slain is now the victorious Lion, worthy of all praise.

3. The Eternal Reign of the Lamb:
Finally, the Lamb is worthy because He reigns eternally. In Revelation 7, the multitude stands before the throne, acknowledging that salvation belongs to God and the Lamb. Jesus is not only our Savior but also our eternal King. His kingdom is unshakeable, and His reign is forever. This eternal sovereignty is a key aspect of His worthiness.

Given the worthiness of the Lamb, how should we respond?

1. Worship:
Our primary response should be worship. Just as the heavenly host offers continuous praise, we too are called to live lives of worship. This means more than singing hymns; it means honoring God with our thoughts, words, and deeds. Our entire lives should reflect the glory and worthiness of the Lamb.

2. Gratitude:
The doxology in verse 12 includes thanksgiving. We must continually thank God for the gift of His Son. Gratitude should permeate our prayers and our daily lives. Recognizing the depth of Christ's sacrifice should lead us to a profound sense of thankfulness.

3. Service:
The Lamb's worthiness compels us to serve. Revelation 7:15 says, "Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple." Our service to God and others is a natural response to the grace we have received. Whether through acts of kindness, sharing the Gospel, or supporting the church, we serve as a testament to the Lamb's worthiness.

4. Holiness:
The white robes of the multitude symbolize purity. As followers of the Lamb, we are called to live holy lives, set apart for God's purposes. This involves striving for righteousness, resisting sin, and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us into the likeness of Christ.

In conclusion, we have seen a glimpse of the heavenly worship that declares the Lamb's worthiness. Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, is worthy of all blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might. His sacrificial death, victorious resurrection, and eternal reign compel us to respond with worship, gratitude, service, and holiness.

Let us therefore  join the multitude in declaring, "Worthy is the Lamb!" May our lives be a continuous offering of praise to the One who is worthy, now and forevermore. Amen.

God bless you.
