Be Fruitful and Multiply

Genesis  49:22 Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall:  49:23 The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him:  49:24 But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)  49:25 Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:  49:26 The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.

The Symbol of Fruitfulness is blessings, in the scripture passage above, Joseph is described as a "fruitful vine," a vivid image that signifies prosperity, growth, and abundance.

The vine's connection to a spring indicates a source of nourishment and life. As believers, we are called to be fruitful, drawing our sustenance from God, the living water. Jesus reiterated this in John 15:5, where He says, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

Joseph’s journey was not without challenges. He faced hostility and attacks, yet he remained steadfast. His ability to endure and thrive despite adversity was because of God’s mighty hand upon him. Similarly, in our lives, we may face trials and opposition, but if we remain rooted in God, we can overcome and continue to bear fruit. Romans 8:37 reminds us, "In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us."

Jacob’s blessing highlights various sources of blessings: the skies above, the springs below, and the blessings of the breast and womb. These symbolize the comprehensive nature of God’s blessings—spiritual, material, and relational. God desires to bless every aspect of our lives so that we can flourish and be a blessing to others. Ephesians 1:3 declares that God has "blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ."

Jacob speaks of blessings greater than the ancient mountains and age-old hills, emphasizing the enduring and generational nature of God’s blessings.

When we are fruitful and multiply, it’s not just for our benefit but also for future generations. We are called to leave a legacy of faith, love, and blessing. Psalm 128:3-4 beautifully portrays this generational blessing: "Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord."

I'm conclusion, Let us remain connected to our source, Jesus Christ, so that we can thrive even in adversity. May we recognize and receive God’s abundant blessings in every area of our lives and commit to passing on these blessings to future generations. Let us pray for the strength and wisdom to live fruitful lives that glorify God and impact those around us.

God bless you.
