Commiting your totality to God
Psalms 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
The word "commit" in this context is translated from the Hebrew word "galal," which means to roll away or to transfer a burden. When we commit our ways to the Lord, we are essentially rolling our burdens, our plans, and our lives onto Him. It is an act of surrender, of giving up control, and placing our trust fully in God's hands.
Committing your totality to God means surrendering every aspect of your life to Him. This includes your thoughts, your actions, your dreams, and your desires. It means letting go of your own plans and seeking His will above all else.
Proverbs 3:5-6 echoes this sentiment: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Trusting God requires acknowledging His sovereignty over your life. It means believing that He knows what is best for you, even when circumstances are challenging or unclear.
Jeremiah 29:11 assures us of God's good plans for us: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
When we commit our totality to God, we are promised His divine intervention and guidance. Psalm 37:5 concludes with a powerful assurance: "trust in him and he will do this."
When we commit our ways to God, He directs our paths. He provides wisdom, clarity, and direction, even in the most confusing and difficult times.
Psalm 32:8 reminds us of God's promise: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you."
Committing your life to God brings a profound sense of peace. When you trust in His plans and relinquish control, you no longer need to carry the burdens of worry and anxiety.
Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to bring our concerns to God: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Practical Steps to Commitment:
1. Daily Surrender:
- Begin each day with a prayer of surrender, asking God to take control of your thoughts, actions, and plans.
- Reflect on Lamentations 3:22-23: "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
2. Immerse Yourself in Scripture:
- Regularly read and meditate on God's Word. Allow it to guide your decisions and shape your perspective.
- Psalm 119:105 declares, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
3. Seek Godly Counsel:
- Surround yourself with fellow believers who can offer wise and godly advice. Be open to their guidance and correction.
- Proverbs 15:22 states, "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed."
