Preserve your Soul
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
We are reminded that all souls belong to God. This foundational truth establishes our accountability to our Creator. Our souls are not our own to dispose of as we please; they are God's precious creation. Recognizing this ownership is the first step towards preserving our souls. We must live in a manner that honors the One to whom our souls belong.
In verse 20, we are made to understand that no matter the life we live here in earth, each person is accountable for their own actions. The righteousness of the righteous and the wickedness of the wicked are personal.
This personal accountability underscores the necessity of making conscious choices that align with God's will. We cannot rely on the righteousness of our ancestors or blame our shortcomings on them. Each soul stands alone before God.
Both verses emphasize the serious consequence of sin: "the soul who sins shall die." This is a great reminder that sin leads to spiritual death, a separation from God. Sin corrupts the soul and distances it from the source of life. Preserving our souls, therefore, requires a vigilant effort to avoid sin and its deadly consequences.
To preserve our souls, we must embrace righteousness and reject wickedness. This involves a transformative relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Jesus, in His sacrifice, provides the means for our sins to be forgiven and for our souls to be renewed. By accepting Him as our Savior and following His teachings, we align our lives with God's will.
Living righteously involves daily commitment and conscious effort. It requires us to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. It means practicing humility, seeking justice, showing mercy, and walking faithfully with God. Through prayer, scripture reading, and fellowship with other believers, we find strength and guidance to live righteously.
In conclusion, let us always remember that our souls belong to God, and each of us is responsible for preserving our own soul. Let us avoid the pitfalls of sin and embrace the path of righteousness. Through Jesus Christ, we have the promise of forgiveness and renewal. May we commit ourselves daily to living in a way that honors God, preserves our souls, and reflects His love to the world.
God bless you.
