Lack of knowledge

Hosea  4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

In the days of Hosea the prophet, there was no truth in the land, there was no faithfulness to the will of God. There was no mercy, and thus the society of Israel had digressed unit an unloving society in which there was no compassion for one another.

Each one was concerned only for himself. There was no knowledge, or communion with God. The people were ignorant of the law of God, and thus created social morals after their own desires.

The opening words of the verse, "My people are destroyed," beckon us to recognize the potential consequences of living without the necessary knowledge.

This call serves as a reminder that God desires His people to be equipped with wisdom, understanding, and discernment. Knowledge is a divine gift that empowers us to navigate life's challenges, make informed decisions, and live in accordance with God's will.

The phrase "for lack of knowledge" underscores the dire impact of ignorance. Ignorance is not merely a void; it is a dangerous force that can lead us astray, making us susceptible to wrong choices, false beliefs, and harmful behaviours. When we lack knowledge of God's word and His ways, we risk drifting away from His truth and falling into the traps set by the enemy.

The destruction resulting from a lack of knowledge extends to various areas of our lives. Spiritually, ignorance can distance us from our Creator, weakening our relationship with Him.

Morally, it can lead to ethical compromises and the blurring of the lines between right and wrong. Practically, it can hinder personal growth, relationships, and our ability to impact the world positively.

Hosea 4:6 also points out that the lack of knowledge is not only an individual concern but a collective one. Leaders, whether spiritual, social, or political, bear a responsibility to guide their communities with wisdom and insight. When leaders lack understanding or lead others astray, the consequences ripple through society, affecting countless lives.

The scripture reminds us that knowledge is attainable, but it requires effort and a desire to learn. As believers, we are encouraged to diligently study God's word, seek wisdom, and discern His truth. Through prayer, study, and reflection, we can grow in knowledge and draw closer to the heart of God.

In conclusion, the lack of knowledge is not a fate we are powerless to change. God has bestowed upon us the gift of seeking understanding and growing in wisdom.

Let us be vigilant against ignorance, and instead, embrace the opportunity to immerse ourselves in God's truth. By doing so, we equip ourselves to live lives that honour God, make wise choices, and contribute positively to the world around us.

God bless you.
