Spiritual Birth
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
In John 3:1-2, we are introduced to Nicodemus, a Pharisee and ruler of the Jews, who came to Jesus in the darkness of night. His inquiry was simple yet profound: "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him." (John 3:2 ESV) Nicodemus recognized Jesus as a teacher from God, but he was about to learn something far greater.
Jesus responded to Nicodemus with these words: "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3 ESV) This statement cuts to the core of our human condition. We must be born again, not physically, but spiritually, to enter the kingdom of God.
Jesus elaborated further, saying, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." (John 3:5 ESV) The "water" refers to the cleansing of our sins through repentance and baptism, while the "Spirit" symbolises the transforming work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts.
When we are born again, we become new creations in Christ. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." (ESV) This transformation is a miracle that only God can perform.
Jesus' message to Nicodemus is a timeless invitation to all of us. We must be born again to experience the fullness of life that Christ offers. This birth is not of our own doing but a work of the Holy Spirit within us.
To be born again, we must repent of our sins and put our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour . This is a conscious decision that each of us must make.
Being born again means living a life led by the Spirit, allowing Him to guide, empower, and transform us daily. We must yield our lives to God's will and seek His kingdom above all else.
Spiritual Birth distinguish us from the the world and made us citizens of the kingdom of God and bearer of the new covenant through Christ our Lord.
Ephesians 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
In conclusion, the miracle of spiritual birth is an invitation to a new and transformed life in Christ. Just as Nicodemus came seeking answers in the darkness, we too can find the light of Christ through faith and be born again.
Let us have the understanding that true life and entry into the kingdom of God come through the miraculous work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. May we embrace this new birth and live our lives as a testimony to His transforming grace. Amen.
God bless you.
